The days are getting nice outside so now we see our neighbors more frequently and the first question has arrived from the neighbors.
Neighbor: “Where is your truck?”
Me: “We gave it up”
Me: “None ya beeswax!” just kidding, I actually said truthfully, That “we are working on getting out of debt and building wealth.”
Neighbor: “I don’t blame you all.” She had nothing else to say, there was nothing to criticize, it actually was wise. And then this said she, “my husband wants to buy another Cadillac.” (ps they have a Cadillac truck)
Me: “Y’all can do that, we getting outta debt!”
It is hard in this period of civilization to not care what people think and that is real talk. However, there are some times when you just can’t care what people think in order to get things done. Why do I say this? Because I have had to do that this year to accomplish some goals.
On December 28th 2016 our family decided to do something differently. If we want to be different we cannot do what everyone else does. We have to go against the status quo and that is what we did. Let me start at the beginning.
We want to be debt free so bad we can taste it. There is so much we want to do with money but while there are monthly recurring bills those other things are hard to do if not completely unrealistic. The sooner we pay off the house, the car, the credit card and the student loans. The richer we will be, the more we will be able to do with “our” money.
On December 28th 2016 we went to the car dealer and while we saw happy people looking to upgrade cars all I could see were people upgrading and increasing their debt. We were looking to do the opposite and that my friend was one of the hardest things that we have ever had to do as a couple.
I thought about all the questions that would come up about our beloved truck but we kept looking at the end goal. The day when we would have none payments. That taste so good in my mouth
The truth of the matter is that if we cared what people were going to say, we would have not done what we did and what we did has taken us closer to being out of debt already details to come in a celebratory blog post in the near future.
We don’t look at the Joneses because we don’t see their truth. What people don’t know about my neighbor and their Cadillacs is that they lucked up in the past with something that changed their lives but if we assumed they just got it like that and tried to be like them we would lose. Some Joneses live up to their necks in debt but look so appealing on the outside. This we are learning as we study habits that get folks out of debt.
Well until lata forget the Joneses and what people think. #Freedomyear
